Prayers for the Synod and Missions

FOR THE SYNOD

Lord of the Church, you have joined me to a family of believers who walk together in faith, love and service. Keep the congregations of our synod faithful to your Word, and make them eager to do your work. Guide our leaders, and help them fulfill their responsibilities with patience and understanding. Give me a vision, which sees beyond the boundaries of my own congregation and a willingness to support the worldwide mission of your Church.

FOR WORKER TRAINING

Lord of the harvest, give to your Church men and women eager to prepare for service in your kingdom. Bless our schools with instructors who encourage and inspire their students to grow in grace and wisdom. Strengthen the resolve of students to complete their training for ministry, and send them out in the power of your Spirit.

FOR MISSIONARIES

Jesus, my risen Lord, you commanded your Church to preach the gospel to all nations. Prosper the work of missionaries sent out in your name. Protect them and their families from illness and danger. Give them joy in proclaiming the good news of salvation to people everywhere.

FOR PASTORS AND TEACHERS

Oh ascended Lord, thank you for the gift of pastors and teachers to feed your flock. Enable them, by the power of the Spirit, to stand firm in the midst of the trials and stresses of this world. Give them the courage to speak your Word faithfully and the grace to reflect your love in their actions.

FOR ZEAL TO DO GOD’S WORK

Too often I put my own concerns and priorities above your will and work, oh Lord. Rid me of my selfishness, and fill me with the zeal to keep you first in my life.

FOR COURAGE TO SHARE THE GOSPEL

Give me a caring heart, oh Lord, to love and seek the lost. Overcome my fear, and grant me courage to share my hope of salvation with those who have no hope. Make me faithful in my daily life so that all I say and do may glorify you.

BY THOSE SERVING AT WORSHIP

Father, Son and Holy Spirit: I am happy for the privilege of ministering in your house. Help me to be reverent and humble in my service, setting a good example by my words and actions. Enable me to fulfill my duties in such a way that I may assist others to worship you joyfully.
